Rebuildng Europe’s Largest Egg Farm, Chornobaivske owned by Oleh Bakhmatiuk on Hold amid Constant Shelling of Kherson City
Specifications for rebuilding Europe's largest egg farm, Chornobaivskae in Kherson region, are ready, says businessman Oleg Bakhmatyuk's Avangard Group. But the work cannot begin while Kherson is under daily Russian shelling
Due to the criminal actions of the occupiers, the largest factory farm in Europe, which was a key production facility for the Kherson region, was looted and destroyed. Ukrlandfarming Group, Avangard’s parent, said it had already prepared all the necessary technical documentation to resume production. However, it is impossible to start work as long as the Russian occupiers continue to shell the area.
In early March 2022, due to the occupation of part of Ukraine by Russian invaders, Europe's largest egg farm, Chornobaivske, a major employer and producer in the Kherson region, was left without electricity, without the ability to feed the poultry, transport workers to their workplaces and export finished products. About 4.5 million chickens died of thirst and starvation. The occupiers stole expensive modern equipment, and destroyed what they could not take away. Due to the death of 4.5 million birds, the situation in the region is classified by law enforcement agencies as an ecocide committed by the occupiers. This issue has become so critical that it was discussed specifically at a meeting of the UN General Assembly.
The total financial losses of the group as a result of Russian aggression are currently estimated at around USD 1 billion. In particular, losses at the Chornobaivske poultry complex are estimated at USD 300 million. Thus, losses from poultry deaths amount to about UAH 0.7 billion, or USD 20 million. The poultry farm was one of the largest and most modern facilities in Europe. The Avangard Group, in turn, said that after the danger from shelling of the area is eliminated, it plans to resume production at the poultry farm, and has already developed all the necessary technical documentation to restore Europe's largest modern poultry farm.
Avangard Agro Holding (Avangardco IPL), part of the Ukrlandfarming group of companies owned by Ukrainian businessman Oleg Bakhmatyuk, is one of Ukraine's largest producers of eggs and egg products. As a result of Russian aggression, the producer has lost about 60% of its egg production compared with the period before Russia's large-scale aggression against Ukraine.
